» Resident Evil 5 PC Review

Sporting a new mercenaries mode with more enemies on screen, higher resolution DX10 graphics, and 3D Vision support, Resident Evil 5 is definitely best experienced on the PC. But does the PC version of the game suffer from any consoleitis? Vandy doesn't think so. Read his take on the game inside!

I have it for PS3. problem with that is. That RE5 cant be saved?
I have also 3D geforce vision. But only a 85hz CRT 19". played Fallout3 with it.

Well my PS3 I did a 500Gb upgrade.
My co own other half year olde 40GB PS3. Will get a 500GB upgrade. So my Re5 gamesaves will be lost.

Well a PC version to test out 3D vision sound very attempting.

@LORD ORION:

i agree with the services becoming superfluous. especially when a GFW game is bought on steam and you have both of them going on at the same time (RE5). GTAIV has the very unnecessary rockstar social club, which is even worse because it's only used for that game, has to be used to launch the game, and then needs to be left running in the background.

i'm not sure i've ever experienced the problems you have with GFW LIVE though... if you cannot connect, you should have an option to create an offline profile which will still allow you to save and carry those savegames over when you go online. or if you had previously logged in with the online profile, it should just go into offline mode, like steam can.

as for the multiple restarts while updating, which game did that? could it be unique to that title or maybe it just failed for whatever reason? i was having issues with batman: AA, but turned out it didn't automatically install the new version of GFW LIVE that came with the disc... i did that and was able to sign in and update no problem.

regardless, if you choose not to support the companies that use the LIVE service for online (i still think GFW otherwise is a very good thing for PC games in terms of advertising and packaging), that's up to you. the PC gaming audience has already proved to MS that it has a low tolerance for bullshit like paying for online play, so at least we know they're kinda listening to what's being said about it.

Wow, what's up with Capcom? Didn't they not too long ago blame all of their past failures and problems on the PC? And now they're focusing on it? Awesome. Evidence that the PC platform isn't going to disappear.

I'm guessing in large part because every house damn near has a PC and we now have $100 cards that can match and beat the performance of the 360 or PS3. Since you already have the PC it's more cost effective to spend the $100 and get a graphics card, plus you save money on the majority of games that come out. Sometimes you have to wait a little longer, sometimes you get it earlier. About equal footing with consoles there.

But Keyboard and Mouse, the ability to keep your PC relative through minor upgrades, and the general purpose functions make it a far superior choice. For most consumers you can subtract the base cost of the PC and monitor and only look at the cost of a mainstream graphics card. If more devs take Capcom's lead it's very possible the PC will replace consoles, not the other way around.

Might be that PC is going strong in current gen hardware. While Console ar fixed and stuck in the R500 ATI, RSX 7seriesnV stuff.
If console must run along a lot longer. PC get a lot stronger in spect. And with that attractive. It might be even so much that budged hardware even outclasse console. Wonder what budged DX11 line deliver on performance.

Well I'm not debating anything and I 100% agree with you. Unfortunately, a lot of companies don't see it that way (*cough* EA *cough*) so it is refreshing to see Capcom, a primarily console-first developer developing for the PC.

Damn, now I'm even more glad I didn't go out and grab a 360 for this game. I was awful damn close. Now I know I made the right call. Capcom has been one of my favorite console devs for as long as I can remember, it's a breath of fresh air to see them move into the PC market.

yes, LIVE is used for the multiplayer, and there are a bunch of achievements.

Well then I'm not gonna get this one, hate windows live and don't see the need for achievements and stuff like that.

Jacob, I think it is every reason not to use it. The service is crap.

Here are huge problems I have noticed in the single game I have that has it.
1) Having to restart the entire game after an update several times in a row.
2) Having it unavailable means being unable to play, even single player.

If you keep buying games that use it, the clueless execs will think that it is a good idea. Not only will they keep using it, but "improve" it too.(for the worst).

I can't wait until I have a dozen different services on my desktop for each publisher. Let's see, games for windows, steam, star dock... etc.... I though we decided that crap like this is undesirable a decade ago?

It works like this; I bought your game. I didn't give you permission to run a pipe into my compuiter to spam me. This is worse then the freeware crap that we all loathe, because I paid for a product and also got this "service" I don't want.

I've used it some but I just can't stand it really, took me forever to start using steam and now I find it to be ok but GWL is just annoying and bugs me too much. Maybe when it gets to a nice low price I'll pick it up.

i'm not a huge fan of it either, but it's kinda silly to not play a good game just because of that, isn't it?
